Butter - quickly homemade

Butter has become quite expensive these days. Especially here in Norway, unsalted butter (of which there is usually only one type) is more expensive than salted butter.

Personally, I don't mind salted butter, but sometimes you just want regular butter.

Often, our grocery stores have whipped cream on sale for 50% off because it's about to expire. This is an ideal opportunity to make your own butter.

Here I would like to show you how easy and quick it is to make and how you can also use the resulting buttermilk for further processing.

Ingredients:
  • whipped cream

That's it, you really don't need anything more.

Preparation:
  • Put the cream in a mixing bowl and stir until the whipped cream separates into buttermilk and butter. This is easiest with a food processor. You can of course also do it with a hand mixer - or if it's just a small amount, you can put it in a screw-top jar, put the lid on and shake until the butter separates from the buttermilk.

  • Pour off the buttermilk (don't throw it away, as it can easily be used in other ways, e.g. in bread) and knead the butter until the rest of the buttermilk is out. I prefer to do this with my hands.

  • Now place the butter in a bowl of cold water and rinse it again to make sure every last trace of buttermilk is removed.

  • Now you can shape the butter into the desired shape and store it in a tight container in the refrigerator.

  • If you want to make salted butter or herb butter, you can of course mix the butter you just made with other ingredients and knead it well again.
